Havencare Homes and Support are proud to be recruiting for a Waking Night Support Worker to join our team providing core support for people with learning disabilities.

We are currently looking to recruit a waking night support worker to assist 4 ladies with learning disabilities and complex needs, living in the friendly village of South Brent.

Working as part of a team, you will be enthusiastic and motivated to deliver outstanding person-centred support.
Respect, dignity and choice are key aspects of the support you will offer to enable the ladies to enjoy their home and local community.
Daily support needs include personal care, meal preparation, home support, and leisure & social activities.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide support to four ladies with learning disabilities and complex needs and enable them to enjoy their home and local community.

Working as part of a team, you will assist them with their daily needs including personal care, meal preparation, home support and leisure and social activities.

You will deliver outstanding person-centred care, ensuring respect, dignity and choice are key aspects of the support they receive.

About You

The gentleman is due to move home but it is anticipated that he will remain in the local area. Ryan is also a very sociable young man who struggles at times with boundaries and needs consistency and patience to support his understanding that not everyone is his friend – shop staff and transport staff all know Ryan well and will often give a cheerful wave and tell him their names.

Ryan really enjoys the opportunity to travel by train or bus to various places each week, he also attends a farm placement with his support staff twice weekly, his team are supporting him to widen his horizons and try new things he is currently aiming to travel to London on the train. Ryan is able to google worldwide destinations and identify how he would travel there. Ryan is also a bit of a whiz on the iPad.
Ryan thrives on having structure and routine, knowing what he is doing each day and who he will see is very important, Ryan sees the world around him as unpredictable and sometimes frightening. The team are still learning about the things that cause Ryan to be anxious and are supported by specialists to understand and support any behaviours of concern.

Ryan has an infectious personality and is seen to be thriving in his new home and would love the opportunity to have someone new to support him who is enthusiastic and cheerful, who is able to make decisions to keep Ryan occupied and safe, and who is committed to working as part of a small team to make a genuine difference to Ryan.
We are looking for people who will bring great energy, creativity and innovative ideas to supporting individuals and getting the most out of this exciting new service located in the village of St Agnes.

Michael says: “My name is Michael, I have moved back to Cornwall to be with my family in the local area. I have bought my own home in the Illogan area and I am looking for a team that can support me in this new home. Havencare are going to support me to interview a team based on information of what I would like from a support team. I have many professionals and a very supportive family around me that will help with all the training you will need to have the right knowledge to support me.”

As such, we’re looking for a number of Waking Nights Support Workers to join us on a full-time and part-time basis.

The Role

As a Waking Nights Support Worker, you’ll support Michael’s health and wellbeing and help him to live as independently as possible.

Michael is a friendly and sociable man who loves sport, comedy (Dumb and Dumber is a personal favourite), meeting new people and the odd takeaway – especially noodles. He’s passionate about video games, films, golf, snooker, fishing and darts, and he’s looking for team members who share these interests.

Mum and Dad – “Michael is a lovely man, but he needs somebody who is confident working with people who can escalate and get anxious. When people are nice to him and treat him with care this is when you will get the best out of Michael and he will build a great bond with you! Michael loves his sport and loves a takeaway, especially noodles! He is friendly and sociable and loves to meet new people and chat to people out in the community. He would love to go fishing and play darts and golf. He likes to be treated like one of his team and feel like he is being worked WITH and not just looked after. “

Brother – “He needs staff with a good sense of humour, Michael loves comedy, dumb and dumber is one of his favourite films and will have him rolling around laughing! He needs to feel that he can trust and feel secure with his staff and they will keep him safe if he gets anxious. He needs to feel appreciated and valued by his team. He needs people to show an active interest in what he likes and enjoys like video games, films, golf, snooker, get involved, explore it with him.”

A lack of stimulation or overstimulation can escalate Michael and when he becomes anxious, he can act in a way that pushes people away. He’ll benefit from Support Workers with a calm, but confident and assertive approach who can help him to get back on track and putting a smile on people’s faces.

Michael says: “I am looking for support staff who like to be active, enjoy sports and can drive. I would like staff that are experienced, consistent and resilient- I am a very lovely person to be around and I guarantee I will put a smile on your face, however sometimes when I become anxious I can behave in a way that pushes people away- but with great support from you I will be back to putting that smile on your face.”

The Role

As a Support Worker, you’ll support Michael’s health and wellbeing and help him to live as independently as possible.

Michael is a friendly and sociable man who loves sport, comedy (Dumb and Dumber is a personal favourite), meeting new people and the odd takeaway – especially noodles. He’s passionate about video games, films, golf, snooker, fishing and darts, and he’s looking for team members who share these interests.

Mum and Dad – “Michael is a lovely man, but he needs somebody who is confident working with people who can escalate and get anxious. When people are nice to him and treat him with care this is when you will get the best out of Michael and he will build a great bond with you! Michael loves his sport and loves a takeaway, especially noodles! He is friendly and sociable and loves to meet new people and chat to people out in the community. He would love to go fishing and play darts and golf. He likes to be treated like one of his team and feel like he is being worked WITH and not just looked after.“

Brother – “He needs staff with a good sense of humour, Michael loves comedy, dumb and dumber is one of his favourite films and will have him rolling around laughing! He needs to feel that he can trust and feel secure with his staff, and they will keep him safe if he gets anxious. He needs to feel appreciated and valued by his team. A lack of stimulation or overstimulation can escalate Michael and when he becomes anxious, he can act in a way that pushes people away. He’ll benefit from Support Workers with a calm, but confident and assertive approach who can help him to get back on track and putting a smile on people’s faces.

About You

As team leader we are looking for someone to start before Matt moves to be temporarily based in one of our services in Paignton and be the lead person for the transition - this will include days in Cardiff (all expenses paid) and working closely with the family local to Brixham.

“We would like Matt’s support staff to glean as much information about Matt from what we have submitted, existing carers and their own observations of Matt interacting with those around him. Knowledge of Matt, his behaviours (anxious and quiet moments) and interests is vital for all staying in his home. Matt has trouble understanding the do's and don'ts of life, but he does have a high level of intelligence. Reading, writing, excellent recall, operating a laptop, iPad etc and games he does enjoy pen and paper hangman. Patience and flexibility with Matt, there are numerous interests he finds enjoyment in. Music, dance, stories, film scenes called up from the internet, films and comedy series. We feel it's important to indulge him when wanted.
We are expressive when talking to Matt about some of the above and Matt does mimic some of the characters. Support will need to be attentive to Matt's needs i.e. hygiene, teeth, hair and shaving, exercise with outings, correct attire for the elements, hot water and room temperature.”

As team leader you will support the Registered Manager to role-model outstanding support, whilst also supporting with management duties such as: rota planning, appraisals & supervisions, risk assessments, support planning and co-ordinating the regular training of your team. You will be able to use your IT skills to effectively use basic systems designed for crucial reporting. You will demonstrate your ability to plan, do, and review support on an outcomes focused pathway.

You will be experienced in providing services for people with learning disabilities and autism, it would be beneficial to hold current working knowledge of CQC regulations.

This is a 24 hour, 365 days per year service and you will need to be flexible to work as the service requires.

Essential for the role:
• Experience of working in services with adults with learning disabilities.
• Full UK driver’s licence.
